Digital fluency is no longer limited to knowing which buttons to press. Staff are expected to decide, many times each day, what can be shared, with whom, through which channel and for how long it should be kept. Organisations meanwhile face data protection law, donor and audit requirements, client confidentiality obligations and a steady stream of social engineering attacks. The weakest link is rarely the technology; it is a rushed or uninformed user.
This course combines practical tool skills with the governance and compliance principles that sit behind them. Participants start with the digital workplace and its risks, then examine file and folder organisation, naming conventions, permissions and sharing options across common platforms such as Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace. They study email and messaging etiquette and security, how to recognise phishing and fraud, and how to use collaboration spaces without creating shadow records. Other sessions explain data protection principles, classification of information, retention schedules, remote and mobile working, device hygiene, incident reporting and the acceptable use of social media and AI assistants.
Material is delivered through demonstrations, scenario cards and short hands-on tasks that suit a mixed audience, including participants with limited technical background. Everyone finishes with a personal digital conduct checklist and an action plan for improving practice in their team.
