FIDIC conditions are used on road, water, energy and building projects across Africa, often with development bank financing. They allocate risk carefully, but only to parties who follow the procedure. Notices must be served within the stated periods, instructions recorded, claims substantiated and determinations made fairly. Where leadership of the contract is weak, projects slip into delay, cost overruns and prolonged disputes.
The Leadership and Performance in Contract Management & Administration (FIDIC) Training Course addresses both the mechanics and the management behind them. Participants examine the contract structure, the Employer's and Contractor's obligations and the Engineer's role in determinations. They work through variations, delay and disruption, claims and valuation using worked examples, and examine payment, completion, defects and termination. Throughout, the course considers how to lead performance: setting expectations, monitoring progress, motivating contractor teams, and escalating issues before they become formal disputes.
Participants analyse sample clauses and project records, draft notices and responses, and take part in a negotiation simulation. They finish with a contract administration plan and a claims log that can be applied to a live project.
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
