Inventory is often the largest current asset a business holds and the one least understood. Excess stock locks up cash, ties up storage space and invites damage and theft, while shortages interrupt sales, delay projects and strain supplier relationships. For public bodies, hospitals and NGOs, poor stock control also means wasted donor and taxpayer funds and unreliable service delivery.
Mastering Inventory Risk Management for Profitable Operations begins by mapping where risk enters the supply chain, from forecasting errors and unreliable suppliers to handling losses and expiry. Participants then quantify that risk with demand analysis, service level targets, safety stock and economic order quantity methods, and prioritise attention using ABC and XYZ segmentation. The middle days turn to control: stock counting, warehouse security, reconciliation, valuation rules and the treatment of obsolete, damaged and expired goods. The programme closes with risk registers, performance measures and an improvement plan.
Teaching is applied throughout. Delegates work on spreadsheet models and anonymised stock data, debate real situations from their own organisations and leave with tools that can be put to use in the first week back at work.
