Education investments in Africa are under pressure to prove results. Governments, development partners and private sponsors increasingly ask for evidence that children are learning and that trainees move into work, rather than counts of classrooms built or workshops held. Programmes without a credible monitoring and evaluation system struggle to defend their budgets, correct course early or learn from what works.
The Monitoring and Evaluation for Education and Training Programs Training Course walks participants through the whole results cycle for education settings. It starts with problem analysis, theories of change and logical frameworks, then moves to indicator selection, targets and baselines for access, quality, equity and learning. Participants plan data collection with sampling, questionnaires, classroom observation and learning assessments, then clean and analyse the data and interpret it honestly, including its limits. The programme closes with evaluation design, ethical practice with children and learners, and communication of findings to different audiences.
Every topic is practised on education cases such as a school feeding scheme, a teacher professional development programme and a youth skills initiative. Participants finish with a draft M&E plan and reporting template that they can take straight into their own organisations.
