Data has become an asset that boards, regulators and donors expect to be controlled, yet governance programmes are often judged by activity rather than results. Policies approved, committees formed and training sessions held say little about whether decisions are now made on better information. Teams need a disciplined way to find out.
The Monitoring and Evaluation of Data Governance, Quality and Stewardship Training Course applies the methods of programme monitoring and evaluation to the data function. Participants learn to articulate a theory of change for governance, select meaningful indicators, set baselines and targets, and build routines that report progress. Technical content includes data quality measurement, profiling and thresholds, issue management, lineage and metadata coverage, and the measurement of stewardship responsibilities.
The course also covers periodic evaluation: maturity assessments, internal reviews, and ways to estimate the benefits and costs of better data. Sessions are practical, using sample datasets, scorecard templates and anonymised governance documents. Each participant leaves with a monitoring framework tailored to their organisation, ready to take to a data governance board.
