Banking systems in Africa and beyond face pressure from currency swings, concentrated lending, rapid digital finance growth and cross-border group exposures. Deposit insurance schemes and financial stability committees exist to limit the damage when a bank fails, but their value depends on being prepared and on proving it. Boards, governments, the IMF and other partners increasingly expect measurable evidence of readiness rather than statements of intent.
Monitoring and Evaluation of Deposit Insurance and Financial Stability is a programme for professionals who must produce that evidence. Participants review the mandate and design features of deposit insurance, the links with supervision, resolution and lender-of-last-resort functions, and the data an institution needs to track. They then learn how to set outcomes and indicators, collect and verify data, analyse trends and design evaluations that go beyond compliance reporting.
Working sessions use anonymised bank data, sample fund reports and crisis scenarios. Participants build a performance framework, rehearse a payout readiness review, analyse a simulated failure and conclude with a monitoring and evaluation plan designed for their own organisation and its governance arrangements.
