An office runs well because of systems, not because individual staff work harder. This course is aimed at those responsible for designing and overseeing those systems: records and document management, workflow and correspondence handling, office budgeting, and coordination of facilities and procurement. It treats office management as a leadership function with measurable outcomes, not a collection of clerical routines.
Participants build practical tools including a records classification scheme, an office budget template, and a workflow map they can apply directly to their own department. The course also covers supervising administrative staff, setting service standards, and using basic performance data to improve how the office operates.
Throughout the programme, participants work through realistic scenarios drawn from public sector institutions, private enterprises, development organizations, and regulated professional environments, examining how office management and effective administrative skills is applied in practice and where it most often breaks down. Delegates will develop practical skill in designing appropriate frameworks, selecting and applying the right tools for records, documents, and information control, interpreting findings, and communicating conclusions clearly to colleagues, management and external stakeholders. Sessions move deliberately from principles to application, so that each technique introduced is practised against a realistic problem before the programme moves on — strengthening both individual effectiveness and the wider capability of the organizations delegates return to.
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
