Organisations that seek to shape public policy often work with small teams, shifting political windows and a web of partners who each have their own priorities. Under that pressure, avoidable friction creeps in: duplicated research, unclear sign-off, missed consultation deadlines and partnerships that exist on paper but deliver little. Funders and boards increasingly ask not only whether advocacy is bold but whether it is run efficiently and learns from experience.
The Operational Excellence in Advocacy, Policy Influence & Partnerships Training Course applies process improvement thinking to this work. Participants start by mapping how an advocacy initiative actually moves from issue selection to evidence gathering, message development, engagement and follow-up. They then diagnose bottlenecks, set service standards for internal products such as briefs and submissions, and design clearer decision rights. The partnership strand covers selecting partners, agreeing governance, managing shared workplans, resolving disagreements and reviewing value for each party.
The course is hands-on. Delegates work on their own campaigns or partnerships, using templates, scorecards and facilitated reviews, and finish with a prioritised improvement roadmap that includes owners, measures and a ninety-day starting plan.
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
