Agriculture employs most of the workforce in many African economies, yet it attracts a small share of formal credit. Lenders cite weather, price volatility, thin collateral and high servicing costs, and farmers cite slow approvals and rigid repayment schedules. Closing that gap requires disciplined operations as much as new products.
The Operational Excellence in Agri-Finance & Value-Chain Lending Training Course treats the agricultural loan book as a process to be designed, measured and improved. Participants begin with the economics of crop, livestock and agribusiness enterprises and move to cash-flow appraisal, seasonal loan structuring and pricing. They then follow the money along the value chain, studying how buyers, processors and input suppliers can strengthen repayment through contracts, tripartite agreements and receivables finance. Risk transfer through insurance and guarantees is examined alongside the field realities of monitoring and collections.
Learning is case-led. Delegates work with farm budgets, value-chain maps and portfolio reports, redesign a real workflow using process-mapping tools and leave with measurable service-level targets and a lean improvement plan for their own lending unit.
