Demand for fish, eggs, milk and meat is rising across Africa, and so are the pressures on those who produce them: feed costs, disease threats, input quality, market standards and climate variability. Operational excellence in this setting means doing the basics consistently and measuring them, so that a manager can see where money is being lost long before the end of the production cycle.
The programme walks through three production systems side by side. For aquaculture, participants cover site and pond design, water quality, stocking density, feeding regimes and harvest planning. For poultry, the focus is housing, brooding, lighting, nutrition, vaccination and flock performance. For livestock, it covers breeding, feeding strategy, herd health, milk and weight gain monitoring, and pasture or fodder planning. Across all three, cross-cutting sessions introduce biosecurity, lean thinking, standard procedures, enterprise budgeting and traceability requirements demanded by buyers.
Participants analyse real production records, calculate unit costs, identify bottlenecks and prepare an improvement plan for their own unit. Teaching combines classroom sessions, worked examples and practical exercises, so that every idea ends as a tool that can be used on the farm the following Monday.
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
