Much of what an organisation decides, promises and is later held to is set down in writing. A badly worded instruction can be misread, a poorly recorded resolution can be disputed at the next meeting, and an unclear report can stall a funding decision. Staff who write and record well are trusted with more responsibility, and their organisations avoid the rework that follows from misunderstanding.
The Operational Excellence in Business Writing & Minute Taking Training Course covers both disciplines in one programme. The writing component teaches audience analysis, document planning, paragraph and sentence construction, tone, and editing, and then applies them to emails, letters, briefing notes, reports and executive summaries. The minute taking component explains the secretary's role before, during and after a meeting, from drafting the agenda and checking quorum to capturing motions, decisions and responsibilities without transcribing every remark. Participants compare styles of minutes, such as action minutes and narrative minutes, and learn how to circulate, approve and file them.
Work is hands-on from the first session. Delegates rewrite weak samples, practise note-taking on live discussions and finish with a personal toolkit of templates and checklists for use in their own offices.
