Investors, regulators and donors increasingly judge organisations by the quality of their boards. High-profile failures in banks, state corporations and charities have shown that compliance with a governance code is not enough; what matters is whether directors ask the right questions, receive reliable information and hold management to account while still supporting it. Many boards in the region are also expanding rapidly in size and responsibility without matching investment in their own effectiveness.
The Operational Excellence in Corporate Governance & Board Effectiveness Training Course focuses on how boards actually work from meeting to meeting. Participants analyse board composition and skills, the legal and fiduciary duties of directors, and the architecture of committees and delegations of authority. They then practise the routines that distinguish strong boards: concise packs, disciplined agendas, real strategic debate, rigorous risk and audit oversight, and honest evaluation of the chair, the board and individual directors.
The sessions use board scenarios, sample charters, dashboards and evaluation instruments. Participants work on situations such as an underperforming chief executive, a dominant chair or a conflicted director, and build a board improvement plan that can be taken to their own governing body.
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
