Chemicals are indispensable to manufacturing, water treatment, agriculture, healthcare and research, but they carry fire, toxic and environmental risks that unfold quickly when controls fail. Many incidents involve ordinary mistakes: unlabelled containers, mixed waste streams, bypassed interlocks or maintenance carried out without proper isolation. Employers also face growing expectations from inspectors, insurers and communities to demonstrate systematic control.
The Planning and Implementation of Chemical Handling, Laboratory & Process Safety Training Course builds safety from the container up to the whole process. Participants first learn to classify and communicate hazards, assess exposure and choose suitable controls for everyday handling, storage and laboratory tasks. The course then widens to process safety management: understanding how loss of containment occurs, applying hazard identification techniques, controlling change and maintenance work, and preparing facilities and people for emergencies.
Delivery combines technical input with practical activities. Participants analyse real safety data sheets, inspect photographs of storage and laboratory areas for faults, work through a HAZOP node, and plan a response to a simulated spill. They finish with an implementation plan that sets out priorities, responsibilities and timelines for their own site.
By the end of the training, participants will be able to:
