Weak control of physical assets is one of the most frequent findings in public sector and corporate audit reports. Missing assets, unrecorded donations, idle equipment, inconsistent depreciation and unplanned breakdowns all erode value and accountability. At the same time, boards and governments are asking a harder question: not just whether assets are recorded, but whether they are delivering the service and value expected over their whole life.
The Practical Asset Management (Fixed Assets, ISO 55001) Training Course addresses both sides. It begins with the fundamentals of fixed asset control: policies, classification, registers, tagging, verification and the accounting treatment that underpins financial statements. It then broadens into the asset management system described in ISO 55001, covering organisational objectives, asset strategy, risk, maintenance and performance, and the information and governance needed to make sound decisions on acquisition, renewal and disposal.
Participants work with sample asset registers, verification data and asset portfolios drawn from government, utility, health and NGO settings. Exercises are completed in Excel, and by the end of the week each participant has a register clean-up plan and the outline of an asset management plan for their organisation.
After the course, participants will be able to:
