Competition, social media and rising expectations mean that customers now compare every service with the best they have ever received, whether from a bank, a mobile network or a public office. One poor interaction can be shared widely within hours, while a well-handled problem often builds more loyalty than a service that never failed. Organisations in the public and private sectors therefore treat customer service as a core part of performance rather than a courtesy.
This practical course is designed to build skills that front-line staff can use the day they return to work. It opens with a clear picture of what customers expect and how their perceptions form. Participants then develop communication skills for face-to-face, telephone, email and messaging contact, and learn a repeatable approach for handling complaints, difficult behaviour and requests that cannot be met. The second half widens the lens to the whole customer experience, covering journey mapping, service standards, measuring satisfaction and acting on feedback.
The programme relies on role-play, case discussion and observation exercises instead of long lectures. Each participant creates a personal service improvement plan, and supervisors also leave with ideas for coaching and monitoring their teams.
At the end of the course, participants will be able to:
