Organisations now depend on data for regulatory returns, performance reporting, donor accountability and artificial intelligence, and each of those uses magnifies the cost of bad records. Duplicate customers, inconsistent codes, missing fields and untraceable spreadsheets slow decisions and create exposure under data protection and audit rules. Technology alone cannot fix this; people must be given clear authority and routines.
The Professional Data Governance, Quality & Stewardship Training Course is aimed at practitioners who must make governance work in a real institution. It explains why governance programmes stall and how to secure sponsorship, define scope and sequence the first year. Participants design the governance structure, write policies and standards, and assign accountability. The quality module teaches measurement, tools and remediation cycles, while the stewardship module covers day-to-day responsibilities, escalation and communication. Supporting topics include metadata management, master data, classification, retention and the controls expected under privacy laws.
The approach is workshop-based. Using sample datasets and organisation charts, participants profile data, define rules and scorecards, map stewards to data domains, and draft a roadmap with early wins. They leave with templates and a clear first-ninety-day plan for their own organisation.
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
