Organisations now depend on a chain of data systems: source applications, integration layers, pipelines, warehouses, lakes and reporting tools, all built around an ERP that holds financial and operational truth. Each link can fail through human error, design weakness, malicious activity or vendor and infrastructure problems. When it does, the consequences range from wrong management numbers to regulatory breaches and lost revenue. Risk management in this area is therefore a core engineering responsibility rather than a task left to a distant compliance team.
This course takes a lifecycle view. The first block introduces risk concepts, frameworks and techniques, and shows how to inventory data assets, map data flows and build a risk register that engineers and auditors can both use. The second block looks at the technical control families: data quality and reconciliation, security and privacy, availability and recoverability, and change management. The third block turns to ERP data and system landscapes, covering master data, access conflicts, integrations, migrations and upgrades. The final block addresses testing and assurance, including failure simulations, incident response, key risk indicators and executive reporting.
Teaching centres on hands-on scenarios. Participants analyse architectures, write control tests in SQL, review backup and recovery designs, assess a migration plan and defend their risk ratings in peer sessions. By the end they have assembled a full risk assessment and treatment plan for a data platform.
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
