Energy is one of the largest controllable costs in offices, hotels, hospitals, shopping centres, campuses and industrial premises, and it is increasingly linked to the value and financeability of property. Lenders, investors and corporate tenants want evidence of efficient, low-carbon buildings, while grid outages, rising tariffs and diesel generator costs make energy resilience a board-level concern in many African cities. Decarbonisation is no longer a technical side project for engineers; it is a strategic decision about capital, risk and asset value.
The Strategic Building Energy Performance & Decarbonisation Training Course builds a complete approach to improving how buildings use energy and emit carbon. It starts with measuring and benchmarking performance and setting a baseline, moves through energy audits and the main technical measures for efficiency and on-site renewables, and then turns to carbon accounting, net zero targets and transition risk. The later days focus on making the investment case, choosing delivery and financing models, using green building certification strategically and verifying that savings are real. Energy management systems aligned with ISO 50001 provide the thread that keeps improvements going after projects finish.
The course uses real building data, audit reports and retrofit case studies. Participants calculate savings and payback, compare certification routes and develop a decarbonisation roadmap for a building or portfolio they manage or advise.
Over five days, participants learn to:
