Civil society organisations, networks and public agencies are asked to do more with fewer resources, and advocacy is often where that pressure shows. Campaigns drift because the goal is vague, the audience is too broad, or the partners pulling in different directions never agreed how decisions would be made. At the same time, funders increasingly ask for proof that influencing work contributes to real change rather than just activity.
The Strategy and Innovation in Advocacy, Policy Influence & Partnerships Training Course gives participants a structured route from issue to impact. It begins by framing the policy problem and testing assumptions through a theory of change. Participants then analyse institutions, decision makers and opponents, identify windows of opportunity in the policy and budget calendar, and select tactics that fit their context, from evidence briefs and parliamentary engagement to community mobilisation and media work.
Innovation is treated practically: new channels, participatory research, data visualisation and adaptive approaches that let a campaign change course when conditions shift. The course then turns to partnerships, covering how to form and govern coalitions, share credit and manage risk. Throughout, participants work on a live advocacy challenge from their own organisation, so the week ends with a strategy they can take straight into planning meetings.
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
