Money laundering and terrorist financing now move through digital wallets, trade invoices, shell companies and cross-border payment chains that traditional rule-based controls were never designed to follow. Regulators expect institutions to show that their anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing frameworks are risk-based, effective and continually improved, not merely documented. Boards, in turn, want to know whether compliance spending is actually reducing exposure.
This programme gives experienced practitioners a strategic and analytical toolkit. It starts with enterprise-wide risk assessment and the setting of risk appetite, then turns to the design of governance, three-lines responsibilities and performance measures for a modern financial crime function. Participants then work with data: reviewing alert quality, segmenting customers, building behavioural indicators, mapping relationships between accounts and entities, and testing where machine learning can help or mislead. Attention is also given to model governance, explainability, data protection and the ethics of automated decisions.
Learning is applied. Participants analyse anonymised transaction sets, work through typologies drawn from trade-based laundering, corruption proceeds and illicit finance in the informal sector, and leave with a draft strategy and innovation roadmap tailored to their own organisation.
By the end of the programme, participants will be able to:
