Pressure on budgets, ageing infrastructure and rising stakeholder expectations mean that organisations can no longer manage physical assets by habit. Unplanned failures interrupt services, inflate maintenance bills and leave auditors asking why registers do not reconcile with what is on the ground. Boards want evidence that capital is being spent on the right assets at the right time, and that risk, cost and performance are being balanced deliberately.
The Strategy and Innovation in Asset Management (Fixed Assets, ISO 55001) Training Course connects strategy, finance and engineering. It starts with the principles and vocabulary of asset management and the structure of ISO 55001, then moves into stakeholder needs, asset policy and the strategic asset management plan. Participants study the lifecycle from acquisition and operation through maintenance, renewal and disposal, with attention to fixed asset registers, valuation, depreciation and impairment. Risk-based prioritisation, lifecycle costing and capital investment appraisal show how competing demands can be ranked transparently. Later sessions explore innovation, including condition-based and predictive maintenance, digital twins, data platforms and alternative delivery and funding models, and how to build the case for them.
Learning is applied. Using sample registers, condition data and investment proposals, participants prepare an asset strategy outline, a prioritised renewal list and a roadmap for improving maturity against ISO 55001 in their own organisation.
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
