Energy used to heat, cool, light and operate buildings is one of the largest controllable cost lines for any property owner and one of the biggest sources of operational emissions. Governments are tightening building codes, lenders are asking about transition risk, and occupants want comfortable, healthy spaces that are cheap to run. Organisations that respond with isolated gadgets rather than a coherent plan find savings fade and capital is wasted.
The Strategy and Innovation in Building Energy Performance & Decarbonisation Training Course is written for people who must decide what to do across a portfolio and in what order. It covers establishing baselines, setting targets that align with net zero ambitions, assessing retrofit options, and choosing among emerging technologies for heating, cooling, ventilation, renewables and controls. It also deals with the organisational side: building a business case, securing finance, procuring performance-based contracts, engaging tenants and verifying results.
Learning is case-led. Participants analyse sample building data, test retrofit packages in simple models and develop a decarbonisation roadmap for a building or estate of their choice, which they present for peer challenge in the final session.
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
