Governance failures rarely begin with a single dramatic act. They grow from unclear roles, passive oversight, conflicts that go unmanaged and strategy that is presented to a board but never truly debated. Investors, lenders and regulators increasingly ask to see evidence that boards add value, and not only that they comply with a code.
The Strategy and Innovation in Corporate Governance & Board Effectiveness Training Course treats the board as a decision-making system that can be designed and improved. Participants study governance principles and codes, the legal and fiduciary duties of directors, composition and diversity, the working relationship between chair, CEO and company secretary, and the committees through which much of the work is done. The second half of the programme turns to strategy: how boards challenge assumptions, test scenarios, oversee innovation and digital transformation, and monitor performance and risk.
Participants analyse board papers, critique meeting agendas and work through governance dilemmas in teams. A full session is given to board evaluation and development. Each person completes the week with a practical improvement plan for the board they serve or advise.
