Humanitarian and development organisations are adopting digital systems quickly, often tool by tool, and many find themselves with scattered platforms, inconsistent indicators and doubts about the numbers they report. Strategic leadership is needed to ensure that technology serves learning and accountability to communities rather than adding another reporting burden.
The Strategy and Innovation in Digital MEAL, Dashboards & Data Quality Training Course is written for experienced professionals who shape systems as well as use them. Early sessions develop a digital MEAL strategy: mapping the current data landscape, defining user needs, appraising platforms and planning change management. Technical modules then address mobile and remote data collection, geospatial and real-time monitoring options, accountability and feedback mechanisms, and responsible data practices including consent, security and ethics. The dashboard module covers audience analysis, indicator selection, design principles and storytelling with data. Throughout, participants learn to build quality assurance into every stage, from instrument design through to data cleaning and reporting.
Teaching is laboratory-based. Participants build a form, collect sample data, connect it to a dashboard and run a data quality review. They finish by presenting a costed digital MEAL roadmap tailored to their own programme portfolio.
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
