Managers are surrounded by spreadsheets and exports, yet still wait days for a simple answer about sales, spending or programme results. A well-built dashboard replaces that wait with a trusted view that updates itself. Five hands-on days teach participants to work with both leading tools. You connect to Excel, CSV, SQL databases and cloud sources, clean data with Power Query and Tableau Prep, and shape tables into star-schema models with relationships.
Labs then cover DAX measures and time intelligence in Power BI, level-of-detail and table calculations in Tableau, chart choice, colour and layout, filters, drill-through, parameters and mobile views. Later sessions address KPI definition, storytelling with data, publishing to Power BI Service and Tableau Server or Cloud, row-level security, refresh schedules and governance. Analysts, finance and planning officers, monitoring and evaluation staff, programme managers, sales and operations managers and ICT officers who support reporting will benefit. Delivery is classroom, online or in-house, with a CPD-accredited certificate for completed labs. Afterwards you can deliver a decision-ready dashboard from raw data, document its measures and decide which tool suits each reporting need.
Organisations in every sector now collect far more data than they use. Finance teams reconcile figures by hand, donors expect live results frameworks and executives want a single page that shows performance against target. Power BI and Tableau have become the standard tools for this work, but many users learn them informally and produce cluttered pages that mislead or slow down.
This course teaches a disciplined workflow that applies equally to both products. Participants start with a business question and a list of indicators, then prepare and model the data so that calculations are reliable. They build measures, choose visuals that fit the message, arrange layouts that guide the eye and add interactivity that helps users explore without breaking the report.
Later sessions deal with life after the build: publishing, sharing, permissions, scheduled refresh, performance tuning and documentation so someone else can maintain the work. Each day is dominated by lab time on provided sample datasets covering sales, budgets, human resources and programme monitoring. Participants complete a capstone dashboard in the tool of their choice and receive facilitator feedback on design and accuracy.
