Forecast-driven planning tends to amplify variability, leaving companies with too much of what they do not need and too little of what customers want. The week begins with the principles and implementation of Demand Driven Material Requirements Planning, explaining how decoupling points absorb variability and compress lead times. Buffer positioning sessions apply the six positioning factors, buffer profiles and the red, yellow and green zone calculations that size stock buffers. You will then study demand sensing analytics using point-of-sale, order and market signals, and design collaborative forecasting and S&OP processes with customers and suppliers.
Replenishment sessions show how net flow equations generate orders and how execution alerts and exception management focus planners on the items at risk. The final day balances service, inventory and cost, introducing flow-based metrics, buffer performance reviews and the change management needed for adoption. Exercises use spreadsheets to model buffers and replenishment on sample product data. Supply chain planners, inventory and materials managers, S&OP leads and operations managers in manufacturing, distribution and retail will find it applicable. You leave able to design a pilot, size buffers and measure whether flow improves.
This 5-day programme teaches Demand-Driven supply chain management principles that improve responsiveness and reduce waste. Participants learn to shift from forecast-driven to demand-driven planning, implementing buffer management, replenishment calculations, and exception-based ordering processes.
The course covers supply chain visibility tools, demand sensing techniques, and collaborative forecasting methods that enable organizations to maintain lean inventory levels while meeting customer service requirements reliably.
Throughout the programme, participants work through realistic scenarios drawn from public procurement bodies, commercial supply chains, logistics operations, and donor-funded tendering environments, examining how Demand-Driven supply chain management is applied in practice and where it most often breaks down. Delegates will develop practical skill in designing appropriate frameworks, selecting and applying the right tools for strategic buffer positioning, interpreting findings, and communicating conclusions clearly to colleagues, management and external stakeholders. Sessions move deliberately from principles to application, so that each technique introduced is practised against a realistic problem before the programme moves on — strengthening both individual effectiveness and the wider capability of the organizations delegates return to.
