Integrating M&E into Project Lifecycle Training Course in Tanzania

Classroom cohorts in Zanzibar, Dar es Salaam, Arusha, Dodoma · live online · in-house anywhere in Tanzania

When monitoring and evaluation is bolted on after a project starts, baselines are missing, indicators do not match objectives and evaluations struggle to find evidence. The week starts by mapping each stage of the project lifecycle, identification, design, implementation, review and closure, to the M&E tasks that belong there. Planning-phase sessions cover theory of change, logframes, indicator selection, baselines, M&E budgets, roles and the M&E plan itself. Implementation days focus on routine monitoring, data quality, progress reporting and using performance data in management meetings to correct course.

Evaluation sessions explain how and when to conduct midterm reviews, final evaluations and after-action reviews, and how to feed lessons back into current and future projects. The final day covers closure: exit strategies, sustainability assessment, handover of data and documenting results for institutional memory. Participants trace a case project through its full lifecycle, identifying the M&E decisions required at each step and the costs of skipping them. Project managers, M&E officers, programme designers, grant managers and team leaders will be able to embed monitoring and evaluation from concept note to close-out.

About this course

This practical and interactive training focuses on helping professionals integrate monitoring and evaluation practices throughout the entire project lifecycle to strengthen accountability, performance, and results achievement. The course explores project lifecycle management, results-based monitoring frameworks, performance measurement systems, evaluation methodologies, reporting mechanisms, and adaptive management approaches. Participants will gain practical skills for tracking progress, measuring outcomes, managing risks, improving project performance, and supporting evidence-based decision-making.

Throughout the programme, participants work through realistic scenarios drawn from banking institutions, financial services firms, audit practices, and public finance bodies, examining how integrating M&E into project lifecycle is applied in practice and where it most often breaks down. Delegates will develop practical skill in designing appropriate frameworks, selecting and applying the right tools for planning phase integration, interpreting findings, and communicating conclusions clearly to colleagues, management and external stakeholders. Sessions move deliberately from principles to application, so that each technique introduced is practised against a realistic problem before the programme moves on — strengthening both individual effectiveness and the wider capability of the organizations delegates return to.
