Digital Marketing for Nonprofits Training in Uganda

Classroom cohorts in Kampala · live online · in-house anywhere in Uganda

Supporters, donors and volunteers increasingly discover causes online, and organizations without a clear digital voice lose attention to those that have one. Small teams and tight budgets need focused strategies rather than trying to be everywhere. The week begins with building a digital presence strategy aligned to mission, audiences and organizational capacity, including websites, email lists and choosing the right platforms. Social media sessions cover content calendars, community management, paid boosts on a small budget and handling criticism online.

Storytelling through digital media follows, with ethical image use, beneficiary consent, short video, phone photography and writing for screens. You then explore digital fundraising, from donation pages and mobile money appeals to peer-to-peer campaigns and email stewardship. The final day covers measuring impact with analytics and building a practical twelve-month digital plan. Suited to newcomers and those with some experience, it serves communications officers, fundraisers, programme staff handling social media and leaders of community-based organizations. You leave with a channel strategy, a content calendar and a costed digital plan your team can start using immediately.

About this course

Nonprofits and humanitarian organizations often lack the marketing budgets of commercial enterprises, yet face intense competition for donor attention and volunteer engagement. This five-day course teaches digital marketing fundamentals suited to nonprofit budgets and missions: building an online presence, using social media for storytelling and engagement, digital fundraising approaches, and measuring digital marketing impact. Participants examine successful nonprofit digital campaigns from regional and global organizations.

Practical sessions include developing a social media strategy for a specific nonprofit, creating a donor engagement plan, and building a simple website or updating an existing one. Participants leave with a working digital marketing plan and practical knowledge to strengthen their organization's online visibility and supporter engagement.

Throughout the programme, participants work through realistic scenarios drawn from development initiatives, donor-funded programmes, nonprofit operations, and public sector environments, examining how digital marketing for nonprofits is applied in practice and where it most often breaks down. Delegates will develop practical skill in designing appropriate frameworks, selecting and applying the right tools for auditing current digital presence, interpreting findings, and communicating conclusions clearly to colleagues, management and external stakeholders. Sessions move deliberately from principles to application, so that each technique introduced is practised against a realistic problem before the programme moves on — strengthening both individual effectiveness and the wider capability of the organizations delegates return to.
