Proven interventions frequently fail to reach the people who need them, or lose their effect once they leave the controlled conditions of a trial. Implementation science studies why, and how to close that gap between evidence and routine practice. You begin with core concepts and frameworks such as CFIR, RE-AIM, EPIS and normalization process theory. Knowledge translation sessions cover dissemination strategies, stakeholder mapping, policy briefs, evidence summaries and tailoring messages to decision makers and practitioners.
Research design days compare hybrid effectiveness-implementation designs, stepped-wedge trials, mixed methods and implementation outcome measures such as acceptability, fidelity, reach and cost. You will then assess adoption, scale-up and sustainability, using frameworks for scaling and planning for institutionalization. The final day builds an implementation research protocol and strategy for a programme of your choice. Health researchers, programme managers, policy analysts, M&E specialists and academics in public health, education and social services will find it practical. You leave able to design studies that explain what makes interventions work in real settings and to share results in ways that actually change practice and policy.
This course develops advanced capabilities in implementation science, dissemination planning, evidence translation, stakeholder engagement, and program effectiveness assessment. Participants explore practical frameworks, research methodologies, and implementation strategies that improve the adoption and sustainability of evidence-based interventions. Furthermore, the program supports the transition from knowledge generation to effective implementation practices that enhance impact, accountability, and organizational learning.
Throughout the programme, participants work through realistic scenarios drawn from technology organizations, digital transformation programmes, data-driven enterprises, and public sector IT environments, examining how dissemination and implementation research is applied in practice and where it most often breaks down. Delegates will develop practical skill in designing appropriate frameworks, selecting and applying the right tools for implementation research design and, interpreting findings, and communicating conclusions clearly to colleagues, management and external stakeholders. Sessions move deliberately from principles to application, so that each technique introduced is practised against a realistic problem before the programme moves on — strengthening both individual effectiveness and the wider capability of the organizations delegates return to.
