Farmers, traders, processors and exporters need credit that matches the rhythm of planting, harvest and payment, yet many lenders still apply products designed for salaried borrowers. Across five days you learn to read an agricultural chain as a banker, finding where cash is needed, who carries risk and which party can be financed safely. Topics include seasonal cash flow modelling, crop budgets, warehouse receipt financing, input credit, outgrower and contract farming arrangements, leasing for equipment, and blended finance with guarantees.
You also cover risk transfer through crop and index insurance, climate screening, price volatility, portfolio monitoring and non-performing loan prevention in agricultural books. Credit officers, agribusiness relationship managers, microfinance and SACCO managers, development finance staff and agricultural programme managers will benefit. Delivery is by classroom sessions in locations such as Nairobi, Kigali and Accra, online, or in-house at your institution. Afterwards you can assess a chain, structure a facility and set repayment terms that suit the crop cycle. A CPD-accredited Certificate of Completion is issued by Vision Reach Global Consultancy.
Agriculture employs most people across much of Africa, yet it receives a small share of bank lending. Lenders cite weather shocks, side-selling, thin collateral and high servicing costs, and often step back from the sector entirely. Institutions that learn to lend along a whole value chain, rather than farm by farm, can reduce those risks through offtake contracts, aggregation, warehouse receipts and shared data, and open up a large and growing market.
This advanced programme starts with chain analysis: who buys, who finances whom and where margins and risks sit for crops such as maize, coffee, tea, dairy and horticulture. Participants then build seasonal cash flow models, test them against yield and price shocks, and price and structure facilities for farmers, cooperatives, aggregators and processors. Later sessions examine collateral substitutes, guarantees and blended finance, agricultural insurance, digital delivery through mobile money and agent networks, and portfolio management, covenant monitoring and recovery.
Sessions are applied. Participants work with realistic chain case files and spreadsheet models, present credit proposals to a mock committee, and finish with an action plan for expanding or repairing their institution's agricultural book.
