When an algorithm denies a loan unfairly, leaks customer data or gives a citizen wrong advice, regulators and the public look past the data scientists to the board and chief executive. Directors are now expected to know where AI is used, what it could cost and who answers for it, yet many receive little more than vendor presentations. Over ten days, senior leaders learn to direct AI with the discipline they already apply to financial and operational risk. You work with ISO/IEC 38507 on board duties, the leadership requirements of ISO/IEC 42001, the NIST AI Risk Management Framework, ISO/IEC 23894 and the OECD AI Principles, and see how the EU AI Act reaches beyond Europe.
The second week is led by simulation: a live AI incident, a board challenge session on a high-risk deployment and a decision on whether to pursue certification. It suits board members, chief executives, permanent secretaries, chief risk, data and information officers, general counsel and heads of internal audit in banking, telecoms, health, government and NGOs. You leave able to set AI risk appetite, read assurance reports critically and sponsor a governance roadmap. Classroom, online and in-house delivery carry a CPD-accredited certificate.
Few boards would approve a major acquisition without due diligence, yet many have allowed machine learning models, chatbots and automated decision tools into core operations with no comparable scrutiny. The consequences of that gap are becoming visible: discriminatory outcomes that attract regulators, confidential data pasted into public generative tools, vendor models that change behaviour without notice and decisions that nobody can explain to a customer or a court. Directors and senior executives carry the accountability for these outcomes, whether or not they understand the technology.
The Executive AI Governance, Responsible AI & ISO 42001 Training Course is built for those who must direct and oversee AI rather than build it. Days one to five establish the essentials: what AI systems can and cannot do, the responsibilities that ISO/IEC 38507 assigns to governing bodies, responsible AI principles, the regulatory landscape, AI strategy and risk appetite, and what ISO/IEC 42001 requires of top management. Days six to ten raise the level, with executive challenge sessions on impact assessments, strategic choices about generative AI and third-party models, the design of board assurance and reporting, and a live incident simulation that tests crisis leadership.
Teaching is discussion-led and peer-driven, drawing on board papers, case files and decision exercises rather than technical detail. Each participant finishes by presenting a responsible AI charter and a two-year governance roadmap for their own institution.
On completing the ten days, senior leaders will be able to:
