Buildings, plant, vehicles, networks and equipment usually represent the largest pool of capital an organisation controls, yet many boards cannot say what they own, what it is worth or when it will fail. Ghost assets, unplanned breakdowns and unfunded replacements turn into audit queries and service interruptions. Five days equip executives and senior managers to take control of that portfolio.
You work from the fundamentals of asset identification, tagging, verification and register integrity through to valuation, depreciation, impairment and disposal under IFRS and IPSAS. The strategic sessions introduce the ISO 55000 family: asset policy, strategic asset management plan, objectives, risk-based decisions, lifecycle costing, condition assessment and performance indicators. You also examine leadership roles, competence, change control and audit for an asset management system. Finance directors, chief accountants, asset and facilities managers, engineers, internal auditors, procurement heads and public sector accounting officers will gain the most. Delivery is classroom, online or in-house with exercises on sample registers. Afterwards you can brief your board on asset condition and risk, justify renewal budgets and lead a gap assessment against the standard.
Poorly managed assets cost organisations twice: once through avoidable failures and again through weak financial reporting. Government agencies, utilities, hospitals, universities and manufacturers all hold assets whose records are incomplete, whose condition is unknown and whose replacement is not funded. Boards and auditors increasingly ask for a joined-up view that links physical condition, financial value and strategic purpose.
The Executive Asset Management (Fixed Assets, ISO 55001) Training Course provides that view. It opens with the principles of asset management and the value assets deliver, then sets out the fixed asset lifecycle from acquisition to disposal, including recognition, capitalisation, depreciation and impairment. Participants then study the requirements of the ISO 55001 management system: context, leadership, planning, support, operation, performance evaluation and improvement. Practical sessions cover asset registers, criticality ranking, maintenance strategies, lifecycle cost analysis and capital planning.
The course is aimed at decision makers, so each session ends with a management product, such as a board paper, a prioritised renewal plan or a gap assessment. Participants finish with a roadmap tailored to their own organisation.
