Public trust erodes quickly when contracts are steered, courts are slow and officials face no consequences, and the cost falls on service delivery, investment and citizens' confidence in the state. Over five days you examine what makes institutions accountable: separation of powers, judicial independence, legislative and audit oversight, access to information and the role of civil society and the media. You then study how corruption actually works, from bribery and embezzlement to state capture and procurement collusion, and how to measure and map it with corruption risk assessments, governance indicators and integrity surveys.
Prevention sessions cover codes of conduct, conflict of interest and asset declaration regimes, whistleblower protection, beneficial ownership transparency, open contracting and ISO 37001 anti-bribery management systems. Enforcement sessions address investigation, prosecution, mutual legal assistance and asset recovery under the UN Convention against Corruption and the African Union anti-corruption convention. It suits anti-corruption commission staff, auditors, prosecutors, judicial officers, parliamentary staff, procurement officers, governance advisers in development agencies and compliance officers in state corporations. Afterwards you can assess an institution's integrity risks and draft a reform strategy with realistic sequencing. Delivery is in the classroom, online or in-house, with a CPD-accredited certificate.
Weak governance and corruption divert public resources from health, education and infrastructure, deter investment and undermine the legitimacy of the state. Across Africa, governments, oversight bodies and development partners have invested heavily in anti-corruption agencies, audit institutions and transparency reforms, yet results depend on whether these institutions work together and whether the law is applied consistently to everyone.
The Good Governance, Rule of Law, and Anti-Corruption Strategies Training Course gives participants a structured way to diagnose governance weaknesses and respond to them. It starts with the principles of accountable, transparent and participatory government and the meaning of the rule of law in practice, then looks at the institutions that hold power to account. The middle of the week is devoted to the forms and drivers of corruption, risk assessment methods and preventive tools such as integrity plans, disclosure regimes and safeguards in public procurement. The final day addresses investigation, enforcement, international cooperation and the design of a reform strategy that is politically and administratively realistic.
Participants learn through comparative case studies, group diagnostics of a model public institution and structured debate on reform trade-offs. Each participant completes a corruption risk assessment and a short anti-corruption action plan for an organisation they know.
