Weak governance and corruption divert public resources from health, education and infrastructure, deter investment and undermine the legitimacy of the state. Across Africa, governments, oversight bodies and development partners have invested heavily in anti-corruption agencies, audit institutions and transparency reforms, yet results depend on whether these institutions work together and whether the law is applied consistently to everyone.
The Good Governance, Rule of Law, and Anti-Corruption Strategies Training Course gives participants a structured way to diagnose governance weaknesses and respond to them. It starts with the principles of accountable, transparent and participatory government and the meaning of the rule of law in practice, then looks at the institutions that hold power to account. The middle of the week is devoted to the forms and drivers of corruption, risk assessment methods and preventive tools such as integrity plans, disclosure regimes and safeguards in public procurement. The final day addresses investigation, enforcement, international cooperation and the design of a reform strategy that is politically and administratively realistic.
Participants learn through comparative case studies, group diagnostics of a model public institution and structured debate on reform trade-offs. Each participant completes a corruption risk assessment and a short anti-corruption action plan for an organisation they know.
