Organisations make decisions, report to regulators and serve customers using data that nobody clearly owns. Duplicate records, conflicting definitions and unmanaged access lead to wrong figures, failed audits and privacy breaches. Regulators across Africa and beyond now expect documented accountability for personal and sensitive data, which makes governance a compliance obligation as well as a management good practice. This five-day programme shows how to establish it.
Participants study governance frameworks such as DAMA-DMBOK, operating models and committees, policy and standards development, data ownership and stewardship roles, metadata and data catalogues, master and reference data, data quality dimensions and profiling, and issue management. Compliance topics include privacy principles, consent, retention, classification, access control, breach response and audit evidence. The course is well suited to data managers, compliance and risk officers, records and information managers, ICT and security staff, internal auditors, business intelligence leads and data protection officers in government, banks, health, telecoms and NGOs. You will practise drafting a governance charter and a data quality scorecard. Training is available in the classroom, online or in-house, with a CPD-accredited certificate on completion.
Data has become one of the largest sources of operational and legal risk. Weak controls expose organisations to fines, reputational damage and unreliable analytics, while unclear ownership slows every project that depends on data. Good governance replaces ad hoc fixes with agreed rules, accountable people and routine measurement.
The Governance and Compliance in Data Governance, Quality & Stewardship Training Course takes participants from the foundations of a governance programme to everyday stewardship practice. They learn how to secure sponsorship, choose an operating model, write policies that people will follow and assign owners and stewards with realistic responsibilities. The course then turns to quality: defining rules for completeness, accuracy, validity, timeliness and uniqueness, profiling data, tracing root causes and tracking improvement.
A compliance thread runs through the week. Participants map personal and regulated data, apply classification and retention rules, review third-party sharing and prepare evidence for audits and supervisory inquiries. Sessions combine short lectures, templates and workshops using sample datasets and policy extracts. Each participant ends with a draft governance charter, a stewardship role description, a quality scorecard and a compliance gap list for their own organisation.
