A bank that misreads its regulator, or a supervisor who cannot see emerging risk, puts depositors and the wider financial system in danger. Fines, licence conditions and reputational damage follow quickly when capital, liquidity, governance or anti-money laundering weaknesses go unnoticed.
Five days of structured work take you through the architecture of prudential supervision and the compliance function that answers to it. You study the Basel Core Principles, the Basel III capital and liquidity framework, risk-based supervision, CAMELS-style ratings, on-site inspection and off-site analysis, stress testing, corrective action and enforcement. On the compliance side you build a compliance risk assessment, a monitoring plan, regulatory change tracking, customer due diligence and suspicious transaction reporting aligned with FATF standards. Bank compliance officers, risk managers, internal auditors, board committee members, central bank and regulatory staff, and senior managers dealing with supervisors will benefit most. Case exercises use anonymised examination findings and ratio data. You finish able to prepare for an inspection, respond to findings persuasively, run a compliance programme with clear ownership and brief the board with confidence. Classroom, online and in-house delivery end in a CPD-accredited certificate.
Financial regulation has widened steadily since the global financial crisis, and supervisors now expect banks to demonstrate sound governance, robust capital and liquidity buffers, reliable data and active control of financial crime. Institutions that treat compliance as paperwork discover too late that findings repeat, penalties escalate and relationships with the regulator deteriorate. Supervisory authorities, for their part, must allocate scarce examiners to the risks that matter most.
Participants in this training begin with the purpose and structure of supervision, covering licensing, the legal powers of the supervisor and the supervisory cycle. They then examine how supervisors assess capital adequacy, asset quality, management, earnings, liquidity and market risk sensitivity, and how banks should organise their three lines of defence in response. Later sessions cover conduct and consumer protection, AML and counter-terrorist financing controls, regulatory reporting, inspection management, remedial action plans and cross-border cooperation.
The programme is delivered through worked ratio analysis, mock inspection scenarios and the drafting of compliance documents. Participants leave with a practical framework for managing the bank and regulator relationship in their own jurisdiction.
