Financial regulation has widened steadily since the global financial crisis, and supervisors now expect banks to demonstrate sound governance, robust capital and liquidity buffers, reliable data and active control of financial crime. Institutions that treat compliance as paperwork discover too late that findings repeat, penalties escalate and relationships with the regulator deteriorate. Supervisory authorities, for their part, must allocate scarce examiners to the risks that matter most.
Participants in this training begin with the purpose and structure of supervision, covering licensing, the legal powers of the supervisor and the supervisory cycle. They then examine how supervisors assess capital adequacy, asset quality, management, earnings, liquidity and market risk sensitivity, and how banks should organise their three lines of defence in response. Later sessions cover conduct and consumer protection, AML and counter-terrorist financing controls, regulatory reporting, inspection management, remedial action plans and cross-border cooperation.
The programme is delivered through worked ratio analysis, mock inspection scenarios and the drafting of compliance documents. Participants leave with a practical framework for managing the bank and regulator relationship in their own jurisdiction.
