A single weak bank can shake public confidence in an entire financial system, which is why supervisors and compliance functions must spot problems early and act in proportion. This five-day programme shows how to plan a supervisory cycle and carry it through to enforcement. You study risk-based supervision, CAMELS-style ratings, institutional risk profiling, off-site analysis of prudential returns and the design and conduct of on-site inspections, from scoping letters to findings and reports.
Technical sessions apply the Basel framework to capital adequacy, liquidity coverage, credit and market risk, while governance, anti-money laundering, consumer protection and fintech oversight receive dedicated attention. The closing sessions cover remedial measures, sanctions, resolution planning, and cooperation between supervisors. Central bank and regulatory authority examiners, bank compliance officers, internal auditors, risk managers and policy staff in ministries of finance will gain practical templates. Delivery is in classrooms across Africa and beyond, online, or in-house for a regulator or banking group, with a CPD-accredited certificate at the end. Participants return able to draft a supervisory plan, rate an institution and write findings that stand up to challenge.
Financial systems across Africa are growing more complex, with new digital lenders, mobile money platforms, cross-border banking groups and rising demand for transparent anti-money laundering controls. Supervisory authorities are expected to keep pace with limited staff, so planning matters as much as technical knowledge. Banks, meanwhile, must show that compliance is built into daily operations rather than treated as an annual exercise.
The programme walks through the supervisory process in sequence. It begins with the legal and institutional basis of supervision and the principles that guide it, then moves to risk-based planning, institution risk assessment and the use of prudential data. Participants then prepare for and conduct examinations, review asset quality, capital, earnings, liquidity and governance, and draft findings. The final sessions address enforcement ladders, corrective action tracking, cooperation among regulators and compliance programme design inside banks.
Sessions are scenario driven. Participants work with sample bank returns, ratio sets and anonymised inspection extracts, producing a draft annual supervisory plan, a rating assessment and an examination report outline that can be adapted to their own jurisdiction and institution.
