Rising temperatures, floods, smoke and disrupted livelihoods are changing the conditions in which people work, while excessive workload, harassment, job insecurity and exposure to trauma are damaging mental health in every sector. Ten days teach safety and people professionals to manage both families of risk within one management system. You assess heat stress with WBGT and acclimatisation rules, plan for flood, storm and wildfire smoke, review vector-borne disease exposure, and design work-rest regimes, shelters and emergency plans. In parallel, you apply psychosocial risk methods such as the HSE Management Standards, ISO 45003 principles, surveys, and the job demands and resources model.
Later sessions cover violence and harassment prevention, return-to-work, employee assistance, manager capability, consultation with workers and unions, and incident reporting. You integrate everything into ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 systems, set indicators, budget the programme and run a final implementation project. Occupational health and safety managers, HR and wellbeing leads, sustainability officers, facilities and site managers, labour inspectors and humanitarian safety advisers will benefit. Sessions run in the classroom, online or in-house, and end with a CPD-accredited certificate.
Employers have long managed noise, machinery and chemicals. Two newer groups of hazards now sit beside them and are often handled badly because they fall between departments. Climate-related hazards, such as extreme heat, flooding, poor air quality and changing disease patterns, are treated as an environment or facilities problem. Psychosocial hazards, such as chronic overload, bullying, violence, isolation and fear of job loss, are treated as an HR problem. For the worker, they are all conditions of the same job.
The Planning and Implementation of Climate-Related and Psychosocial Workplace Risk Training Course is built to join them up. Over ten days participants learn to identify hazards, assess who is most exposed, select controls using the hierarchy of control, and put them into practice through policies, procedures, training and monitoring. The first part covers the science and the legal and management foundations, then examines climate hazards in depth for outdoor, industrial and office settings. The second part does the same for psychosocial risks, with emphasis on organisation of work, leadership behaviour and support systems.
The final days integrate these streams with occupational health and safety and environmental management systems, emergency preparedness and just transition thinking. Participants apply every technique to a real workplace through a running project, so the programme ends with a costed implementation plan that has already been challenged by peers and facilitators.
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
