When a bank fails, depositors lose confidence, credit dries up and the damage spreads across the wider economy. Strong supervision and a compliance function that is taken seriously are the first lines of defence, yet both need practical skills as well as knowledge of the rules. Across five days, supervisors and bank staff learn how a modern prudential regime works and how to apply it in real institutions.
You work with risk-based supervision, off-site analysis and on-site inspection planning, CAMELS ratings, Basel capital adequacy, liquidity coverage and net stable funding measures, and credit risk classification and provisioning under IFRS 9. Further sessions examine governance, internal controls, anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing checks, consumer protection and the supervision of digital financial services. You practise reading prudential returns, calculating ratios, writing examination findings and agreeing remedial action with bank management. The programme is built for central bank and regulator staff, bank compliance officers, risk managers, internal auditors, and financial inspectors in SACCOs, microfinance and insurance regulators. It runs in the classroom, online or in-house, and closes with a CPD-accredited certificate. Afterwards you can plan an inspection, test compliance and report clearly to senior decision makers.
Banks operate on public trust and borrowed money, which is why they are regulated more closely than almost any other business. Supervisors must spot weaknesses in capital, asset quality, liquidity and governance early enough to act, while banks must prove to regulators, auditors and correspondent partners that their compliance framework works in practice rather than only on paper. Both sides face rising demands from new capital rules, digital lending, mobile money and tighter financial crime expectations.
The Practical Banking Supervision & Regulatory Compliance Training Course gives participants a working method for each stage of the supervisory and compliance cycle. It starts with the objectives of supervision and the architecture of the Basel framework, then moves through risk-based planning, analysis of financial statements and returns, and examination of credit, market, liquidity and operational risk. Later sessions cover corporate governance, AML and sanctions controls, conduct and consumer protection, and the enforcement tools available when a bank falls short.
Each topic is taught through ratio exercises, sample bank data and mock examinations. Participants finish the week having produced an inspection plan, a short report of findings and a compliance monitoring calendar they can adapt for their own institution.
