Climate change now shapes harvests, water supply, infrastructure costs and access to finance. Organisations are asked to measure their emissions, show how they are exposed to climate hazards and publish credible plans, while communities need adaptation measures that actually work.
This five-day programme is built around tasks you can repeat afterwards. You learn how to set organisational boundaries and compile a greenhouse gas inventory under the GHG Protocol, covering Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions, emission factors, activity data and quality checks. You then screen climate hazards, assess vulnerability and risk, and select adaptation options using cost-benefit and multi-criteria methods. Mitigation sessions cover energy efficiency, renewables, waste, land use and nature-based solutions, followed by target setting, marginal abatement thinking, carbon markets, climate finance and disclosure expectations. Sustainability officers, environmental managers, project designers, county and national government planners, NGO programme staff, finance teams and consultants will find the sessions directly useful. You complete a simple emissions calculation, a risk register and an action plan for your own setting. Delivery is by classroom, online or in-house, with a CPD-accredited certificate awarded at the end.
Pressure to act on climate comes from several directions at once: investors and lenders seeking disclosure, regulators introducing reporting rules, donors funding resilience programmes and customers asking about the footprint of what they buy. At the same time, droughts, floods and heat are raising operating costs for farms, utilities, cities and businesses across Africa. Many organisations want to respond but lack the technical basis to measure, prioritise and defend their decisions.
Practical Climate Action, Adaptation & Carbon Accounting Training Course provides that basis. It starts with climate science essentials and the policy landscape, including the Paris Agreement and nationally determined contributions. Participants then learn carbon accounting step by step, move to climate risk and vulnerability assessment, and explore adaptation planning, mitigation options, target setting and offsetting. The final sessions cover financing, monitoring, verification and public reporting.
Spreadsheet exercises, simplified data sets and group planning tasks keep the content grounded. Participants build an emissions estimate and a prioritised action plan based on their own organisation or project, which they can present internally after the course.
On completion, participants will be able to:
