Policies change when the right evidence reaches the right decision-maker at the right moment, and many organisations lose influence simply because they have no plan for that journey. Five days take experienced practitioners from a promising idea to an adopted position. Sessions cover issue framing, power and stakeholder mapping, theory-of-change design for influencing work, evidence briefs, policy briefs and position papers, and the mechanics of lobbying, media engagement and public campaigns. A full session is given to building and sustaining partnerships, coalitions and civil society networks, including memoranda of understanding, shared accountability and managing donor expectations.
Programme directors, policy and advocacy officers, communications leads, network coordinators, chamber and association staff, and development partner liaison officers from NGOs, government agencies and private sector bodies will gain the most. Classroom, online and in-house formats are available, and every delegate receives a CPD-accredited certificate. Afterwards you can draft an advocacy strategy with milestones and risks, prepare a persuasive briefing for a senior official, and structure a partnership that holds together when priorities shift or funding changes.
Advocacy is rarely won by the loudest voice. It is won by organisations that understand how decisions are really made, who holds influence over them and what evidence will carry weight. Many NGOs, associations and public bodies have strong technical knowledge but struggle to turn it into policy change, because their influencing work is reactive, poorly sequenced or isolated from potential allies.
This programme gives experienced practitioners a disciplined approach. It starts with problem analysis and the policy cycle, then moves through stakeholder and power mapping, objective setting and message development. Participants learn to produce concise policy briefs, make a case in meetings with ministers, legislators and regulators, and work with the media and social platforms without losing control of the message. The later days concentrate on partnerships: choosing allies, forming coalitions, agreeing roles and building the trust and governance that keep joint efforts alive.
Each topic is applied immediately to a live issue that participants bring from their own organisations. By the final session every delegate has a tested advocacy plan, a one-page briefing note and a partnership proposal ready to take back to their institution.
