Donors and managers want results information quickly, yet many projects still reconcile spreadsheets by hand, discover errors at reporting time and keep community feedback in a drawer. Five days show you how to modernise the whole monitoring, evaluation, accountability and learning cycle. You work from logframes and theories of change to indicator reference sheets, digital collection with KoboToolbox, central databases, data quality assessments, verification routines and interactive dashboards in Power BI and Excel. Accountability topics include feedback and complaints mechanisms, closing the loop with communities, and safeguarding personal data, while learning sessions look at after-action reviews and adaptive management.
The programme is built for MEAL officers and managers, programme and project managers, information management staff, data analysts, grants and reporting officers, and organisational learning advisers in NGOs, UN agencies, government projects and research institutions. Participants build a working dashboard from sample project data and test it against a data quality checklist. Afterwards you can design a digital MEAL workflow, assign data ownership, detect and correct quality problems, visualise results for different audiences and turn findings into management decisions. Delivery is by classroom, online or in-house, and a CPD-accredited certificate is issued.
Results-based management has raised expectations for timely, credible evidence. Donors review progress through quarterly dashboards, boards ask for evidence of impact, and communities increasingly expect to be heard. At the same time, teams struggle with fragmented tools, inconsistent indicator definitions and datasets that nobody has checked. A strong digital MEAL system replaces these weaknesses with clear data flows, routine quality checks and visuals that managers actually use.
This programme guides participants through designing and operating that system. It opens with the foundations of monitoring, evaluation, accountability and learning and the role of results frameworks and indicator definitions. Participants then examine digital data collection, integration of sources, database design and automation, followed by the dimensions of data quality such as validity, reliability, timeliness, precision and integrity, and the methods of data quality assessment and routine verification. The visualisation sessions teach dashboard design principles, data modelling and measures in Power BI, and chart selection for different audiences. The last day deals with feedback mechanisms, learning events, ethics and data protection, and sustaining the system.
The course is highly practical. Participants build indicator trackers, data quality checklists and dashboards using sample data, and leave with a plan to strengthen MEAL in their own programmes.
