Results-based management has raised expectations for timely, credible evidence. Donors review progress through quarterly dashboards, boards ask for evidence of impact, and communities increasingly expect to be heard. At the same time, teams struggle with fragmented tools, inconsistent indicator definitions and datasets that nobody has checked. A strong digital MEAL system replaces these weaknesses with clear data flows, routine quality checks and visuals that managers actually use.
This programme guides participants through designing and operating that system. It opens with the foundations of monitoring, evaluation, accountability and learning and the role of results frameworks and indicator definitions. Participants then examine digital data collection, integration of sources, database design and automation, followed by the dimensions of data quality such as validity, reliability, timeliness, precision and integrity, and the methods of data quality assessment and routine verification. The visualisation sessions teach dashboard design principles, data modelling and measures in Power BI, and chart selection for different audiences. The last day deals with feedback mechanisms, learning events, ethics and data protection, and sustaining the system.
The course is highly practical. Participants build indicator trackers, data quality checklists and dashboards using sample data, and leave with a plan to strengthen MEAL in their own programmes.
By the end of the programme, participants will be able to:
