Hotter workplaces, flooding, disrupted transport and unpredictable weather are changing the hazards employees face, while stress, harassment, long hours and job insecurity are driving absence and turnover. Most safety systems handle the first poorly and the second hardly at all. Five days show you how to treat both as manageable risks. You apply hazard identification, risk matrices and the hierarchy of controls to heat stress, extreme weather, air quality and vector-borne disease exposure, then use ISO 45003 guidance, stress risk surveys and HSE Management Standards style indicators to assess workload, control, support, role clarity and relationships.
The programme is designed for HSE officers, occupational health nurses and physicians, HR managers, facilities and operations managers, wellbeing coordinators and safety committee members in factories, farms, hospitals, construction sites, offices, NGOs and public bodies. Participants work through realistic workplace scenarios and draft documents they can use immediately. Afterwards you can complete a combined risk assessment, set heat and weather action triggers, design return-to-work and support routes, write a psychosocial risk policy and brief managers on their duties. It is offered in the classroom, online or in-house, with a CPD-accredited certificate.
Employers have long managed physical hazards such as machinery, chemicals and falls, but two fast-growing groups of risk often sit outside the safety system. Climate-related hazards, including extreme heat, floods, storms, drought and poor air quality, now interrupt work, endanger outdoor and shift workers and strain supply chains. Psychosocial risks, from excessive workload and bullying to violence and poor change management, harm mental and physical health and reduce performance. Both demand systematic assessment, not goodwill alone.
This programme gives participants a single structured approach. It begins with core risk management concepts, the legal and ethical duty to protect workers, and the link between occupational safety and health systems such as ISO 45001. Climate sessions cover heat stress indices, acclimatisation, work-rest schedules, flood and storm preparedness, business continuity and the health effects of changing disease patterns. Psychosocial sessions deal with identifying hazards in work design and management, using surveys and focus groups, and applying controls at organisational, team and individual level, along with employee assistance, mental health first response and return to work. The closing sessions integrate the two into one risk register, with roles, monitoring and review.
Participants learn through workplace scenarios, assessment templates, a simulated survey analysis and drafting sessions, producing documents that fit their own organisation.
