Policy and Regulatory Frameworks for AI Governance, Responsible AI & ISO 42001 Training Course in Mombasa, Kenya
Classroom training in Mombasa · next cohort Oct 26, 2026 · from USD 3,200
Artificial intelligence is now regulated, not just debated. Organisations that build, buy or deploy AI face binding obligations in some markets, voluntary but influential frameworks in others, and growing scrutiny from regulators and customers everywhere. Policy makers, meanwhile, must decide how to protect rights and safety without stifling innovation. Over ten days you learn to translate the instruments shaping that landscape into policy, regulation and organisational controls.
You study the EU AI Act's risk-based structure, the OECD AI Principles, the UNESCO Recommendation on the Ethics of AI, the African Union Continental AI Strategy and the NIST AI Risk Management Framework, then work with ISO/IEC 42001, 23894 and 42005 to build an AI management system and impact assessment process. The second week moves into drafting national and sector AI policy, regulatory impact assessment, sandboxes, public procurement of AI, conformity assessment and audit, with case files from finance, health and public services. It is designed for regulators, policy analysts, legal counsel, data protection officers, risk managers and technology leaders. Afterwards you can draft an AI policy and oversight framework. Classroom, online and in-house formats carry a CPD-accredited certificate.

About this course
Governments, regulators and organisations are moving quickly from high-level AI ethics statements to enforceable rules, certifiable management systems and sector guidance. The European Union has adopted a comprehensive AI regulation with obligations that reach providers outside Europe, international bodies have agreed common principles, and standards bodies have published a growing family of AI management and risk standards. For African and emerging-market institutions, the question is how to align with these developments in a way that fits local priorities, capacities and legal traditions.
The Policy and Regulatory Frameworks for AI Governance, Responsible AI & ISO 42001 Training Course provides a structured route through this material. The first week builds a firm foundation: AI concepts and risks, the principles of responsible AI, the main international and regional instruments, the interaction with data protection, consumer and anti-discrimination law, and the requirements of ISO/IEC 42001 and its companion standards. The second week is applied. Participants design regulatory options and draft policy, prepare an AI impact assessment, structure a conformity and audit regime, examine sector-specific approaches in financial services, health and public administration, and address generative AI and general-purpose models. The course ends with an integrated project in which each participant or team produces a policy or governance package for a real or realistic institution.
Delivery mixes expert briefings with close reading of the instruments themselves, comparative tables, drafting labs and simulated consultations. Participants leave with documents they can adapt, not just notes.
Training Objectives
By the close of the ten days, participants will be able to:
- Explain the main AI risks and the principles of responsible AI, including fairness, transparency, accountability and human oversight.
- Compare the EU AI Act, OECD AI Principles, UNESCO Recommendation, Council of Europe Framework Convention and NIST AI RMF.
- Interpret the requirements of ISO/IEC 42001 and related standards for an AI management system.
- Analyse how data protection, consumer protection and sector regulation apply to AI systems.
- Design regulatory options, including risk-based rules, sandboxes and co-regulation, using regulatory impact assessment.
- Draft national, sector or organisational AI policies with clear roles, obligations and enforcement.
