Workplace risk assessment has long concentrated on machinery, chemicals and falls. Two newer groups of hazards now sit beside them. Climate-related hazards such as extreme heat, flooding, wildfire smoke and disrupted transport affect outdoor labourers, factory staff, drivers and office workers alike. Psychosocial hazards, including excessive demands, poor management, bullying, isolation and exposure to violence or distress, are among the leading causes of lost working time and staff turnover.
The Applied Climate-Related and Psychosocial Workplace Risk Training Course shows how to identify, assess and control both within an existing occupational safety and health management system. Participants first review the legal duty of care and the evidence linking climate and psychosocial hazards to health. They then learn the tools for each: heat stress indices, work and rest schedules, emergency planning for extreme weather, stress surveys, interviews and risk factor mapping. The programme next addresses controls, consultation with workers, incident response, supportive supervision and reasonable adjustment, followed by measurement and continual improvement.
Sessions combine short presentations with site scenarios, practice assessments and group planning. Each participant finishes with a combined risk register and an action plan drawn from their own workplace.
