Hotter working days, heavier rains and erratic seasons are changing the hazards people meet at work, while long hours, job insecurity, bullying and trauma exposure are harming mental health in every sector. Both groups of hazards reduce productivity and raise absence, accidents and compensation costs, yet many safety systems still treat them as someone else's problem. Over five days, you learn to bring them into one practical risk management process.
You measure heat exposure with WBGT and acclimatisation plans, assess outdoor and indoor workers, prepare for floods, storms and drought, and examine air quality and vector-borne disease risk. On the psychosocial side you work with stress risk assessment tools, the ISO 45003 guidance, workload and role clarity, violence and harassment prevention, return-to-work support and employee assistance. You then combine the findings in a single register, set controls using the hierarchy of control and track results. Occupational health and safety officers, HR managers, facility and site managers, wellbeing coordinators and union or staff representatives in construction, agriculture, health, manufacturing and the public sector will benefit. Delivery is by classroom, online or in-house, and a CPD-accredited certificate is issued.
Workplace risk assessment has long concentrated on machinery, chemicals and falls. Two newer groups of hazards now sit beside them. Climate-related hazards such as extreme heat, flooding, wildfire smoke and disrupted transport affect outdoor labourers, factory staff, drivers and office workers alike. Psychosocial hazards, including excessive demands, poor management, bullying, isolation and exposure to violence or distress, are among the leading causes of lost working time and staff turnover.
The Applied Climate-Related and Psychosocial Workplace Risk Training Course shows how to identify, assess and control both within an existing occupational safety and health management system. Participants first review the legal duty of care and the evidence linking climate and psychosocial hazards to health. They then learn the tools for each: heat stress indices, work and rest schedules, emergency planning for extreme weather, stress surveys, interviews and risk factor mapping. The programme next addresses controls, consultation with workers, incident response, supportive supervision and reasonable adjustment, followed by measurement and continual improvement.
Sessions combine short presentations with site scenarios, practice assessments and group planning. Each participant finishes with a combined risk register and an action plan drawn from their own workplace.
By the end of the programme, participants will be able to:
