Demand for fish, eggs, milk and meat is rising across Africa, yet many smallholder and commercial producers still lose a large share of their output to disease, poor nutrition and weak management. Higher feed costs and tighter food safety expectations from buyers mean that guesswork no longer pays. Producers who adopt tested practices and measure their performance are the ones who stay profitable.
This programme brings aquaculture, poultry and livestock under one practical framework. Participants begin with site selection, housing and infrastructure, then work through nutrition and feeding systems, breeding and replacement strategies, and the daily routines that keep animals healthy. Disease prevention is treated as a system of biosecurity, vaccination, hygiene and early detection rather than a series of emergency treatments. The later sessions address welfare, environmental management of manure and effluent, product handling, marketing, and the record keeping needed to calculate costs, margins and returns.
The learning style is applied. Participants calculate rations, review sample flock, herd and pond records, and diagnose problems from case descriptions. Each person leaves with a production improvement plan for the enterprise they manage or advise on.
