Infrastructure and extractive projects bring jobs, contracts and services, yet the gains rarely reach women and men equally. Land acquisition often bypasses women who farm but do not hold title, camp life exposes female workers to harassment, and consultation held in formal settings can silence the very people most affected. Lenders, host governments and communities now expect companies to show that gender has been analysed and acted upon, not simply mentioned in a policy.
This programme follows the project cycle from feasibility to closure. Participants begin with gender concepts and the specific dynamics of mining, oil and gas, energy, roads and water schemes. They then learn how to carry out gender analysis during impact assessment, plan consultation that reaches women, address resettlement and livelihood restoration, and build local employment and procurement opportunities that include women-owned enterprises. Later sessions deal with workplace culture, safety, grievance handling and the monitoring of results using sex-disaggregated data.
Teaching relies on case files from African and global projects, structured group work and templates participants can take back to their own sites. By the final session each participant has outlined a gender action plan suited to a project they know.
By the end of the programme, participants will be able to:
